1st Disney Cruise - October 2018 - on the Disney Dream

Booked our 1st cruise for October 2018. Doing the Halloween Cruise - so excited.
Just a couple of questions (we have no clue ... never done this before) ...
Has anyone done the Atlantis Beach Day ? We really want to go to Atlantis to see it. Can you just go and see the hotel then come back to the ship ?

What's the kids clubs like onboard ? DD will be 12 & DS will be 10, will they like the kids clubs ?

Do Disney have a Halloween Party onboard ? Do they do that instead of the Pirate nights ?

Sorry for all the questions.
xx

We got back from WDW last week, which had been preceded by 5 days on the Disney Dream.

1. We didn't do the Atlantis Beach day, we did a bus tour of Nassau instead. Just be aware that if the weather is particularly bad (which it was throughout the whole of our trip!), some excursions are cancelled and your money refunded or you can book something else. Also, Atlantis is quite a way away from the port, you couldn't just walk there, you would need to get a cab or bus if you don't do an official excursion.

2. We don't have kids, so can't help with the kids clubs question; however, I believe they are absolutely AMAZING and I think your kids will love them, given the age that they are.

3. We did indeed get Halloween on the High Seas, which consisted of : trick or treat bags for kids, (adults were supposed to get them too, although we never received one in our state room and weren't bothered enough to go to Guest Relations to collect one), which will be left in your state room, and then there are treat stations in several locations on the ship; the chance to dress up for dinner that night, loads of people dress up in really elaborate costumes and it is great fun to see; a show on the stage on the main deck with singing and dancing characters; special character meet & greets (although lines can be up to 2 hours long!); and a showing of The Nightmare before Christmas in 4D in the Walt Disney Theatre in the early evening. There is also a pumpkin tree in the big atrium which becomes more and more decorated as the week goes on.

This night was in addition to Pirates in the Caribbean, which was pirate night. This was also great fun, all our servers were dressed up as pirates for dinner that night, there was another singing and dancing characters show on deck, and then we had a firework show with music and clips of films on the big screen on deck. (Because the weather was so rainy, our crew sailed us off the normal route slightly to find somewhere where it wasn't raining or the fireworks would have had to be cancelled!)

I hope all this helps. It was our first cruise too, and we loved it so much - we would go again in a heartbeat! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy your cruise!

Hi,

Can't help with the 1st question, but what cruise are you actually doing.

We did a 3 night cruise (just a couple of weeks ago) and did Bahamas Cruise.

The Halloween Party is actually around 4.30pm on deck when it's daylight and it was upto you if you if you wanted to dress as a pirate (they leave a bandana in your room) or go in other costume. On a 3 night there is only a Pirate/Halloween Night.

The youth spaces are brilliant, but as to whether your children will like them or not is anyones guess.

Take them to their respective space on first day as that's when the friendships are formed, especially for the 12 yr old.
Officially, the 10 yr old would be in Oceaneers Club and Lab, but it has been known that older 10 yr olds can go to Edge (12-14 yr olds). This is all dependent on their space (how many children of the correct age are on the cruise basically) and how close to 11 they are.

Remember that although they may want to be together, the older space has older children in it and that may not be suitable for your 10 yr old. I know I wouldn't have wanted my 10 yr old wizard (g/daughter) to go to Edge.

Pirate Night happens on every cruise apart from ones where it could impact the environment, so Alaska, Fjords etc. It will always say Pirates in the Caribbean though, regardless of where you are!

Halloween, as discussed earlier, is in addition to Pirate Night. It makes for a very busy cruise so personally, I'd stay onboard for Nassau and enjoy the ship.
