It is different for everyone but my brother had had surgery twice now and each time it has only lasted just over 3 years. He’s back wearing contacts and glasses again.

I had it done several years ago and it wasn’t successful. Initially I had good vision up close but very blurred distance, they did it again and now better distance but poor up close.
I suffered terribly with dry eyes for many years, was back wearing glasses within months of surgery.
I have never had vision back to what it was with my glasses before trying the surgery.

I am thankfully the minority and most everyone I hear of has had great results.

I had wavefront LASIK done almost twelve years ago. V bad myopia (-6.5 in left and 6.75 in right) and severe astigmatism in both eyes. I had it done at optical express and it was £3,500. I am really pleased with the results and my vision is still excellent 12 years later. I noticed about 8 months ago that if I was very very tired or had spent a number of days staring at my laptop I felt my vision was very slightly blurry, so I do have glasses for those times but I wear them maybe one evening a month if that

I first got glasses when I was about 7 and after a progressive deterioration my prescription was around -6 and -7 by the time I had my eye surgery in August 2008 at the age of 38.

It is unequivocally the best decision I have made in my entire life. With a prescription like mine it was a game changer. I still marvel at being able to function from the moment I wake up without having to scrabble to find glasses.

My DH had the surgery a couple of weeks after me, he had a milder prescription and was 20/20 the very next morning when he returned for the check up. For me it took two or three weeks until all the blurring was gone. I was able to manage most things from the start but I would not have driven. The halos around lights at night was very temporary for both of us, maybe a couple of months.

I am 50 now and I use reading glasses and have done for a few years. My DH is four years younger than me and he does not require reading glasses at this point. Requiring reading glasses does not bother me in the slightest. It is nothing compared to the absolute dependence I had on my glasses / contacts that I had in the past.

I went to Accuvision in Fulham and I think it was about £2k per eye. DH was much cheaper as his eyes were not as bad as mine.

Had it 13 years ago and honestly the best thing I ever did.
It was life changing.
I need reading glasses for last year or so and I am almost 59 now so may have needed them anyway

Wavefront guided lasik here in 2004 (it was brand new technology back then!) and it was one of the best things I ever did.

I do have reading glasses now but only need them for reading VERY small print - usually drug expiry dates at work that are ridiculously tiny - most text I don't need them for.

I get some haloing around lights when I'm tired at night, but it's not terrible.

For me it was totally life changing with regards to swimming, getting up in the night etc.

I was a -6 & -6.5

I had my eyes sorted (Lasek) in 2018, I use Optimax in Bristol and it was something like £4000 in total.

The process was completely painless, and it took about a week's recovery to be fully 100% afterwards. Through the first few days of recovery it was a little dull, (bright lights were very uncomfotable) and there wasnt much I could do. At one point I ended up watching TV wearing ski goggles!
After a couple of days things were pretty much back to normal, and over the course of the week vision got crisper and crisper.

Since having it done I have experenced dry eyes more frequently than before (and keep a bottle of drops on my desk to help out when it happens). But my only regret is that I didnt do it a lot sooner. Cannot wait to get back to Florida and be able to do the 3d attractions without having to have 3d glases over the top of perscription glasses.

I agree it's interesting and my friend who is training to be an ophthalmologist has mentioned how few ophthalmologists have had lasik done. She mentioned the reason why but I honestly can't remember what the reason was.

However it's also very interesting how many non-ophthalmology doctors I know have had lasik done...

Two of my kids had it done about 15 and 13 years ago, both delighted with it.
