To be honest, there's two schools of thought on that, isn't there? The Pyramid rooms are 'funkier' in that they are that weird shape. And, yes, they are actually closer to the facilities. But the Tower rooms are newer, bigger and actually you can check in at the Tower and avoid the queue in the Pyramid. Also you will generally be quieter there? I think it's a toss up - personal choice. As for location - I'm broadly in agreement with jufc. I've been to Vegas 11 times - I've stayed downtown, North Strip, Centre Strip and South Strip. None of them are impossible to get to and from. But it's accepted that North Strip & Downtown will probably be visited less than the other areas? When I stayed at The Palazzo/Flamingo/Caesar's/Bally's & Imperial Palace - yeah, I thought Centre Strip was the best option. But it does get horrendously crowded at weekends, and the interesection between Harrahs and Caesars/Mirage is a positive deathtrap and really puts me off staying there again. When I've stayed at The Tropicana & MGM Grand, I have t say I haven't felt 'out of it'. Yes, the more well known hotels are Centre Strip, I guess, but they are walkable, if not, the Deuce/Monorail or taxi will do. Let's face it, The Mirage is as far from The Luxor as The Luxor is from The Mirage?! Go for the best deal - and, at the moment, they tend to be emanating from The Luxor, MGM Grand and Planet Hollywood.

To be honest that argument really doesn't work now does it ! If you are looking for a quiet room away from all the amenities don't go to Vegas ! and the pyramid rooms are certainly big enough. What I was trying to put across (to a new visitor to LV) was that the experience is all about staying in the Pyramid which all, I'm sure, would agree - If you have never been before you might think you are staying in the pyramid because you don't realise you might be put in the tower block out the back. Everyone I've spoken to who has stayed there refers to the experience of the 'inclinators' (for those who don't know - the lifts that go up the inside of the pyramid at an angle) and the weird feeling they give you... if you have a tower room you don't get to try this and, as I remember, there are security checking your room # before you go to the 'lifts' |

We stayed at the Mirage and it was easy to walk to the Luxor.
It is a bit closer to the airport |

As I said, personal choice.
I think you've just argued against yourself, to be honest. But, hey, I believe in giving people the information to make their choice.

We stayed in MGM Grand in March 2009 and loved this hotel and its location, we paid $521 for 6 nights through a 'deal' we also got 2 x free buffets, 15% voucher off spa and free entry into Nightclub (which we didnt use . too tired LOL)
We are going again in Oct this year and thinking about going back to MGM again, simply as we know the rooms are nice, clean and spacious, so hopefully they will come out with more offers later on this year Joanne

We did the same - and are going back this year in August, for more of the same! I think it's the best 'value for money' hotel on The Strip - we've got 8 nights in August for $550, and that includes a 2 for 1 buffet etc

Just had a look at this hotel, looks great. How did you manage to get such a good deal for August?

Totally disagree, the tower rooms are slightly bigger, have more light and usually better views.
If you book a room through a hotel web site tower rooms are more expensive. It is all a matter of personal taste though, the pyramid room is more in being with the theme of the hotel and you are actually IN the casino with all the atmosphere. I have stayed in the tower rooms and have visited a pyramid room and thought the pyramid room was very 'snug'. There are some pyramid suites I wouldn't mind trying though. As to the original question, I have stayed center strip (Planet Hollywood and Imperial Palace) but still keep going back to the South end of the strip, usually the Excalibur now.

The deal I booked was called "Winter Warmer", which has (unfortunately) run out now. This is a similar deal:
