Stayed at the Riviera last September and thought it was great! It's a bit away from all the other hotels but bus stops are right outside.

The best thing was the retroness of the casino. Bright lights when walking in, low ceilings, posters from the 80s. Brilliant!

Really cheap too. I'm going back in September and the rooms are about £18 a night! But I've decided to stay at New York, New York this time.

The weather was great. Nice and sunny ans warm. It rained on the morning of my first day but beautiful in the afternoon. It did get quite windy and chilly at night though.

We stayed there last year - it is a huge hotel. The rooms are inbetween a standard at the somewhere like The Flamingo and a suite at The Palazzo (size wise) but are very hi tec, and adjust the temprature, curtains etc when you re-enter your room! Much fun at the start of your stay...

The Flamingo is another great choice - rooms can be had for about $40 a night now (in the week) and are good, solid, but unspectacular. You can upgrade to a Go Deluxe room for roughly another $25 per night and they are much nicer. Also, if you can, ask for a Go Deluxe room on the 22nd floor (they are only in certain parts of the hotel) and ask for a fountain view room? You'll get a spectacular view of the Bellagio fountain display, at a fraction of what it would cost at Planet Hollywood etc? The pool area has a beautiful tropical garden zone too, and is great fun too, but gets VERY busy.

Over the years we have done Caesars, Luxor, Bellagio, MonteCarlo and today we leave Mandorin Oriental.
Caesars certainly IS Vegas for vibe and wowness ( though tbh the walkthrough crowd was a bit rough this week I think the hangover film has attracted some wannabe copycats. The rooms at Caesars are so so, Bellagio is plush and fabulous if not a little worn round the edges and overpriced for just that reason ( beds are dreamy though). Luxor is luxor its an ecperience all its own, the tower rooms are cleaner bigger and better furnished the pyrimid rooms pong of fag ash a bit.
Didn't like Monte Carlo though the buffet is nice and slots pay out more often.
Mandarin Oriental is pure bliss, total relaxation, no drunken boisterous boys or mucky women lol. Staff know your name wherever you go in the hotel and the service is just amazing, top notch rooms but this hotel is serious money not for the budget concious, we now wont stay anywhere else but its going to take longer to save up for the trip. The new part city centre was perfect for me, I love architecture, angles and art and any Metropolis type style I find invigorating and sophisticated. I enjoyed visiting the strip and that Vegas vibe BUT to be able to return to the almost utopian perfection of the new city and crystals was bliss on a hot day. Defo coming back here and for longer now, Disney has moved down a notch for me after this trip and especially The Mandorin Oriental.

My fave is the Venetian, it's very luxurious and all rooms even standard are suites, so you get 3 massive flat screen tvs, sunken living area etc. Best time for me is Nov to March. Went Oct last year and it was boiling hot! Everywhere has air con but out on the strip there's no shade and it's all concrete.

Summer is hot real hot! If you can avoid it.

As for rooms, it depends if you want on or off strip (usuallya lot cheaper and just as good) though the hotels at either end tend to be cheaper than the middle ones also.

You MUST shop around though, I book hotels for a living and the prices REALLy vary site to site, amazing how much actually, and how much you want to spend?
A couple of years ago I booked myself rooms in NY/LA/SF and Vegas for the same trip and booked every room from a different site as they all had deals on or the prices varied.
Luckily for my Vegas stay I had a free upgrade to a GO Deluxe in the Famingo with a Bellagio fountain view, bliss, Happy Hunting.

Well i have to go in March.. i have no choice in that for now as thats when the NASCAR race is... there is talk of there being another race though maybe sept/oct time and if so then that will become our preferred time to visit.

Hotels.. well trips have been either last minute or on a tight budget upto now.. So its been the Excalibur or Flamingo.. Excalibur in 2004 was ok.. visited it this yr and thought it had gone downhill and its not a place i'd stay again. Stopped in the Flamingo in 2006 in a strip view room and it was really nice... this yr we had a standard room and whilst it did the job it was very tired and in need of a overhaul , but i paid £250 for 7 nights over Vegas's busiest weekend of the year so i cant complain. And the dining areas etc were nice.

For next yrs trip with the kids the budget isnt so restrictive so we are looking at stopping at Planet Hollywood.
