for those of you that have stayed at the flamingo how did you find it? i'm going in 13 days time and have been reading really awful reviews about the rooms worst was on the vegas message board. i know americans are a lot more fussy that us so is it as bad as they make out? basically we only use the hotel to sleep in, we're always out and about, the pool i've read is extemely busy but that i'm not too bothered about either as we can use the pools at any other cet properties such as ceasars, ph and paris. we prefer to keep our money for spends rather than paying over the top for a hotel. i have read reports on a lot of the other strip hotels costing double the price and read bad reports on these too! just wondering if its so bad i need to look elsewhere

I stopped there in March for a week.

I paid £250 for 7 nights so for that money it was bargin. We had a room overlooking the gardens at the back. Room itself was tired , carpets were a little grubby in places, paintwork chipped etc.. but the bedding was clean as was the bathroom. We could have upgraded to a go-room which are supposed to be lovely for about £150 for the week.

I also stopped there 5 yrs ago in a strip view room and that was much nicer but it was 5 yrs ago so who knows what its like now.
The actual hotel though is nice, its got some nice restuarants, and a new food court with Johnny Rockets etc oh and a Mrs Fields bakers which sells the nicest cupcakes.

We would stop there again i think and may well do next yr... its one of the few hotels that doesnt charge a resort fee per night and as long as you are happy to have the incidentals turned off you dont have to leave a credit card or cash deposit.

We had a quick look round the Excalibur whilst we were there and for similiar money the Flamingo wins hands down in our opinion.

Oh and we didnt use the pools as it wasnt pool season but i have heard they get quite busy and i think they attract quite a young crowd and have lots of pool parties going on.

First tip when you go to check in and they ask for id and credit card place a $20.00 tip between the 2 items and say at the time when you hand it over are there any complimentary upgrades. The first rule in vegas is tipping gets you every where. If the person can move it she/he will get you upgrade if not they will normally say sorry or nun available today and offer you your 20 back. Of the 7 times we have been i have failed only once, once we were upgraded to a full 1bed suite with kitchen log fire and tub at the end of our bed so give it a try. As to the hotels they are all pretty nice we have stayed at the stratosphere and you should go up and see the view at night it is amazing and will blow your mind. the mgm group are very plain in my op-ion but good value for money that is mgm excalibur luxor and ny ny. My favourites are paris the palms hugh heifers playboy hotel (my fav) rio and the mandalay bay.
go and try the sunday brunch in the rio with pink Champaign. And what ever you do not not go to bed early on the first night we normally hit the gambling floor till 2.00 am and it will knock you onto vegas time.
Now the fun bit that most of us brits miss never book and pay for your room in full before you go, go to the hotel web site and book 1 night and say your are staying for 3 or 4 or 5 nights then charge all the things to do on your bill. This should be 80 % of all your mills now when you go gambling always put your players card from your hotel down when you hit the tables or slots or any gambling. Then at the end of the stay find the casino host room and go and pay your bill there and ask the hotel what they are going to comp you for your stay. This is the bit i love i have saved from 40% right up to 85% of my hotel bill inc meals drinks internet and the rooms i have stayed in it is amazing what vegas will chuck at you for loyal customers. Enjoy your self i am off in november and can not wait till i am there again.

re the $20 tip, how long a stay were you trying this with? i've been on a vegas forum asking about it as i'm staying for 14 nights and have been told for a stay that length i've virtually zero chance of getting an upgrade

Whether the $20 tip works or not is debetable... some say yes many more say no.

I have also heard that the longer you stay the less likely of a free upgrade which makes sense doesnt it.. Why give someone something free for 14 nights when they can be charging for it.

The first time i stopped in the Flamingo and wanted an upgrade to a room over lookng the Bellagio fountains it cost us £100 and tbh i was happy to pay that anyway.

We went beginning of October last year and stayed at the Palazzo. Absolutely stunning room and hotel - loved it. Weather was really nice too. I would like to try the Venetian or Aria next time. Having said that the Wynn and Encore looked really nice too!

if you go to fatwalet and check the holiday section it has a on going web page of the $20.00 tip right up to yesterday and whether it worked or not. as to 14 days i would be dead in vegas if i stayed for 2 weeks it is 2 much of a head rush. The longest we have stayed is 6 days and it worked there but vegas is all about short windows as american come in and go every 3 days so we normally chop around to different hotels it also a lot more fun than 1 place for a long period.

Sounds fab! Have you tried this at different hotels? We're going to be staying at the Bellagio and wondered if it was worth a try there?
