Demolition of crossroads plaza LBV?

Hi all,

Has anyone heard about the demolition of some plaza near the Clarion next year? To make room for the new I4 sliproad.

Apparently it’s the plaza with the Goodings supermarket and other shops. The whole plaza is now closed up and RV trailers are parked up.

I was looking to book the Clarion due to its proximity to shops and eateries, especially Millers LBV, I don’t want to book if the place will be a building site. Anyone have any news on this?

Yes, I've heard of it.

It was first proposed back in 2016 and was supposed to proceed in 2019 but as I recall, some tenants were reluctant to move and I think there was a court case.

Anyway, the plan was to create a slip road that would connect you to the bottom of hotel plaza boulevard.I'm sure there was a mention that this project also took into account those self-drive-auto type cars ie the ones driven by a computer.

Don't quote me as i could be wrong.

It would seem some stores suffered badly because of the pandemic and closed early and only a few are seeking cheaper rents in close by areas.

So it seems the whole place will be demolished BUT i'm not sure how far that goes because along that road/area there are other fast food outlets and restaurants and on the far side, theres the crazy golf.

Best check orlando sentinel or florida orange county websites for more info.

I can see why you may be concerned.

You're totally right and thats why I suggested looking further into this as I wasn't sure how far back/forward the project would be and how/who it would affect during the demolition bearing in mind its an interstate slip road.

Absolutely! I can’t imagine the Crossroads demolition would impact it, it’s on the other side of the road and quite a way down Apopka Vineland (from a demolition perspective anyway! )

The closure is a "Go" again after a short stay of execution. August next year seems to be when it will happen...
Plans to demolish the plaza in late 2019 were delayed as FDOT negotiated with Gooding's, the final tenant who hadn’t come to an agreement. An eminent domain court ruling in January 2019 gave the plaza a few more months of life, allowing the tenants, including the Gooding's, to remain in operation until August of 2021.

But the current pandemic meant even once the businesses in the plaza could reopen with tourist numbers at record lows in Central Florida, it would be nearly impossible to pull a profit. Instead, many of the anchors have decided to go ahead and close early. Now the plaza sits with awnings haphazardly hanging off the building and what looks to be an unofficial RV encampment in front of the indefinitely closed Red Lobster.

Some tenants are reportedly looking to move to new nearby locations, taking advantage of possible lower rent rates due to the pandemic linked recession. At the same time, like the plaza itself, for others, including the Gooding's, this is their final chapter, inevitable but still cut short.

Yes it is and at present it doesn’t appear to have reopened from the lockdown. But all the business at crossroads were given a reprieve until August 2021. it does though seem that many are deciding against reopening now .

I believe that it's basically a triangle from the Knife at the top right, back to Pirate's Cove & then to the Waffle shop on left. Hopefully the likes of Perkins, Chevy's,Uno's, Fudds etc will move along the 535 but still be in the general area. Doesn't affect the plaza containing Kobe, just in front of Clarion, but you would think that construction noise might
