Universal AP room rates

Does anyone know if I can purchase a Universal AP and use it to book the AP room rate before activating it by going into a park? We are planning a trip next year and I was wondering if this is a possibility as it may allow us to stay one night at RPR and get the unlimited express pass for two days.

Yes you can, you just need to have it on check in.

They don't release the AP rates until around 3 months before (it varies) but you can apply the rate retrospectively.

Thanks, I thought I was cheeky asking but was sure other people would have had this idea before. Does this mean that your pass is active from when you book the hotel or your first day in the park?

Only activated when you enter the park, I would book a room now with free cancellation in case there is no availability, you don’t say when you are going next year but certain dates in Aug seems to be fully booked Apart from the suites.

As above just need it on Check-in,as has also been explained in other posts, it isn't necessarily going to be a better deal than you can get elsewhere, I've yet to beat prices that I can book from UK TA's/websites- Not all room categories are on sometimes.
Any other discounts- BMG for example or HHN you need to have the pass activated.

Thanks for this, which websites/TAs do you find offer the best rates?

The first time we used BA, that year for RPR only upgraded rooms were available, this time we have used Netflights, in this instance no AP rate but even then we were cheaper than their "Saavy" rate.
