Travel insurance - Lloyd’s Bank

Received an update to our travel insurance through our bank account with Lloyd’s today. For Covid, any bookings made between 18 March and 20 November will NOT be covered for cancellation due to Covid. However, medical cover will be available whilst on holiday.

For bookings made from 21 November, cancellation will include Covid cover if we, or a close relative develop Covid before the trip.

Glad to finally have a clear update on cover for Covid, as despite asking several times, did not get a clear answer.

We’ve booked 2 trips with BA between March and now which won’t be covered for cancellation due to Covid, but happy with BAs cancellation policy.

So they are retrospectively changing their T's and Cs?
Ouch. That wont end well for them!

That is indeed very dodgy ground. Last time we phoned them, they said we would be covered! We have a trip booked in May, for November, to DLP. I'm not too bothered as we can change our flights without charge and move/cancel the hotel without charge - but it would be good to know we were covered.

It’s not a retrospective change, they did write previously to say bookings after 18 March wouldn’t be covered for Covid cancellation. They have now changed their advice to cover bookings for Covid cancellation made after 21 November.

As long as we were covered for medical, I was ok. I might consider cancelling one of my trips and rebooking after 21 November - it’s for Easter, which I think may be more at risk.

I think this is good news. I think Axa underwrite Lloyd’s. Aviva underwrite mine, and I think between them they do most bank on going packaged bank account policies. Hopefully if Axa have moved to this then Aviva might too.

Getting COVID at the last minute is the one thing I can’t get insured for or get cancelable/moveable bookingS that would deal with that risk, so if my bank introduce this we could go ahead and book something

Yes, it’s underwritten by Axa. I also think it’s good news. Shame the 8 months between March and November for bookings aren’t covered, but going forward it’s positive.

I also had my letter from Lloyd’s Bank Travel insurance Today , had to read it a couple of times to really understand it , in a couple of sections there were exclusions to be added on 21st November if you haven’t had or obtained the recommend vaccines or medication, before the start of trip , you will not be covered for any claims directly or indirectly linked .
I expect if we do get offered a Covid vaccine hopefully in the future there will be some that won’t have it , I will I also have the flu vaccine every year but my husband won’t have one .

Not entirely surprising. Actually I thought something along these lines existed anyway, where there were already recommended vaccines like Typhoid and Cholera although of course these are country dependent.
