However that is a GP prescribed amount not just a stab in the dark off the shelf purchase.
I was prescribed 3200iu daily [22400iu weekly] for 12 weeks as I had a deficiency, after this it was lowered to 1600iu daily [11200iu weekly]. They take blood test every so often just to keep an eye on things.

The link that MariaLynda gave in post 27 is worth a read.

is there any downside in everyone taking vitamin d tablets? is there a reason this hasnt been discussed more by news/government? it seems like they should be shouting about this a lot more...

(i already take vitD as i was diagnosed a few years ago with a severe deficiency.)

and then today i read that they are starting trials for it!

Have a look at this. Join up if you can, it can't hurt at the very least! Alternatively, go buy some vitamin d tablets for yourself. I'm on a fairly high dose as I was diagnosed as deficient a few years ago, and even pre-covid it really helped! I stopped falling asleep randomly, feeling less achey in general and overall started feeling a lot better after a few months of regular tablets...

even if it is found NOT to help reduce covid, the benefits are positive anyway. just dont overdose on the stuff (10000iu a day? thats probably a bad idea and can cause issues, but 1000-2000iu a day should be fine... i have 10k once a week or so
Yes, yes, yes! Take it! My DH has MS and takes a high dose daily. We can’t measure exactly how much it has helped him, but he has a very mild disease course so far. A few years ago I thought to myself, “Why am I not taking it too?” So I started taking it.

Children should be supplemented too (NHS says up to 4 but my 6 year old still takes it), from birth if breastfed or partly breastfed or from when they stop drinking 500ml+ of formula a day.

i have been taking Vit D for ages, was very tired, pains, in legs, lots of colds.
blood test showed very low Vit D so GP prescribed really high dose every other day - wow within 2 days felt totally new and ready for a whole day at epcot.

i have had way fewer colds and feel better, and have been taking it ever since i take 12.5 mcg each AM before my porridge.

low levels can make you tired, sleep poorly have bone and muscle aches (which I had) be more susceptible to colds and poor digestion. we also need this to help calcium and phosphate levels in the body too.

the recommendations range from 10mcg to a total top amount of 100mcg (very high).

Vitamin D is in either mcg or IU(international units)
10mcg is the same as 400IU

there is also some Vit D in oily fish, red meats, liver and egg yolks. humans do not make their own Vit D and the easy way for us it to make it from sunlight.

if you are feeling unwell best to have a talk with your GP so see what is right for you.

I realise that is quite a high dose, but not too high.

The instant impact I found was that I went from falling asleep on the sofa every night to never falling asleep on the sofa - it was kinda strange to have the change so quickly.

I recommend it to everyone - it's the only additional vitamin I take
Do you take one every day or every other? I want to order these but not sure if I can take them every day or not

I take them every day in the Autumn / winter - give or take the days I forget - so I'd say probably at least 5/6 days a week.

During the spring and summer I took every 3/4 days as I spent a lot more time outside
