Matresses

Years ago we bought a Laura Ashley mattress, was on £450 down from £900 on their rotating 50% off sale. Seemed great but after 1-2 years you could tell it wasnt made to last. We put up with it for another few years but finally had to get a replacement quick. Having put an ikea mattress on our spare double bed and were surprisingly happy with it, we got a king for ours. Unfortunately it just wasnt quiet the same. We never made use of the free exchange as the next mattress was a lot more money.
We really need some replacement.

I like the idea of these companies offering 3-6 (even 12) month trials and free return for a full refund if not happy. Dreams only offer 40 days and you have to pay a return fee and you can only exchange and not refund.

I have researched on Which and Ideal Homes but its really hard to internet shop for a mattress.
Any recommendations for either good shops or mattresses.

We bought a Hypnos about a year ago and it is brilliant, so comfy. We got it from John Lewis.

Have you thought of the premier inn mattress, ive heard lots of people who live the beds when they stay over, like them so much they end up buying one. X

We have a Henry Smeaton mattress (apparently Wills & Kate also have one according the the newspaper ad in the showroom). I've never known comfort like it.

Interested to read the replies as we need a new mattress too.
Over the past few years we've purchased 3 different mattresses from John Lewis (all their own make) thinking they'd be great quality. One for our king sized bed, a single for DS and a double for the spare room. Each of them has been awful. I certainly won't be buying from them again.

We have a Harrison bed. Not cheap but very good. I think it's a Yorkshire company.

I have an Emma mattress which had a free returns service. The mattress seems good and is very comfy, although I think it might be a bit soft for me as I wake up with lower back stiffness. I did my research among all the foam mattress people and the advice was to go soft if you are a side sleeper. I couldn't be bothered to return it and try something else, but I probably should have.
