What actually is Spring Break?

I think I understand spring break in as much as it is a period of time when a lot of the USA schools are on “half term”. But how long does it last? Does it spread over several weeks as different areas are off at different times or is it just a week a 2?

Trying to plan a trip for around March but also hoping to avoid the spring break time as well!

It's a break that's spread from late Feb - mid April and varies from state to state. Here's a link that shows you when spring break was for universities throughout the country this year: statravel/spring-break-dates.htm
March tends to be the busiest month and it will be pretty much impossible to avoid then.

You find a lot of university students have their favourite areas where the congregate for spring break and can be a bit OTT depending on where they are especially at some of the coastal areas. A lot of the northern university children gravitate south to the warmer weather. Disney does get busier but they generally behave in the parks.

It's just a half term week for college students, it varies by college as to when it is. When I was studying there it was about 2 weeks before Easter in March. Florida is a mecca for college students across the US for spring break.

Thanks for the clarification.

We’ll just have to make the most of it. Can’t be any worse than the South American tour groups from our holiday last year
