I have our mugs from 2007 squirreled away at home as keepsakes from our 1st visit, I wouldn't dream of re-using them and am looking forward to collecting the next batch with different designs on. I am however intending on taking back the water park beaker and just buying new barcodes for whatever days we visit. Hope the new system works as some of the beakers I saw people filling up where donkeys years old and some weren't even Disney.

This is actually a really good idea, thanks, know what I will be doing with one of ours now.

Oh my,i had seen people using old mugs and just thinking what cheapskates they were and that it was actually quite wrong.
I did not realise that people were using everything and anything to fill them up.

Yes Disney make it so the dispensers only work on mugs purchsed on that visit and for the length of stay.

I do not see a problem with using a refillable mug at any of the Disney Resorts or hotels as long as you are staying on site somewhere

Just a word in defence of some of the people using older mugs (although we have never done it ourselves).

When we first went in 1996, we were told that the mugs we bought had "free lifetime refills".
We actually bought new mugs the next time we went, as we liked collecting the new date and design, but a lot of Americans have taken Disney at their word and keep re-using their original mugs.

We will be buying new mugs again this year, which adds to our huge collection

I know what the current rules are and buy new ones for each trip and have quite a collection.

My uncle and aunt though continue to get refills on the mugs they insist they purchased way in the dim and distant when the mugs were actually advertised and sold with lifetime free refills. They have only been challenged once and once they explained were left to get on with it, but they did resent having to explain themselves when they were doing nothing wrong

Yes, the refillable mugs were originally sold as lifetime free refills, and I don't have a problem with that at all. I do object to someone refilling four 24oz insulated Dunkin Donuts travel mugs (last year at AKV) with not a Disney refillable mug in sight...

I don't have a problem with it at all. However, this year Carrie is buying our kids' mugs for us to put in their gift baskets and we'll just buy the adult mugs when we get there - how would that work?

I'm looking forward to seeing the new mugs (although I think they might be a bit girly for OH) and we'll bring them homeas DS still has his milk in our mugs from 2009 every day!
