I liked the hat - not loved but liked.
Hope they will not put it in the same skip that SpectroMagic saw it's unhappy resting place but will find a more appropriate part of the park to put in in.

It has always been in the wrong place - just like that stage they insist putting in front of it
However, 'The Hat' it is a clear icon for the park , one which was in need prior to it appearing( for those with long memories.)
I hope it can remain an icon, in some form, in some new reimagined part of the park with a tilt to the past studios memories and with a clear iconic message for Disney film making in the future...

dream on - it will be in the same skip as spectro

So glad I got my photo infront of it in september. I always liked the hat. But it probably should have been in a different place.

Then Eisner came along and started shoving up stuff that really didn't belong. The wand on Spaceship earth was his biggest doozy. It took 7 years to get rid of that. Then out of nowhere on September 28, 2001 as part of the 100 Years of Magic celebration, they come along and stick Mickey's hat smack bang in front of the beautiful Grauman's Chinese theatre which was meant to be viewed from the Crossroads at the bottom of Hollywood Boulevard. As this park was meant to be a distallation of Hollywoood why should a massive hat be part of the architectecture?
Where it stands was once a flower bed which was Mickey's nose. Yes his nose. The whole park was designed to be a Hidden Mickey which has been slowly eroded down the years. This is an aerial view of how it looked when it first opened:

I'm just hoping that once the hat has gone, the space remains open and they don't plonk anything else there.
I think Eisner was there before it opened, I think it was his idea to open the park...

I'm not keen on the hat to be honest, It'll be interesting to see if they put anything new in its place but it'll be nice to see the chinese theatre again

How many parents have said to their kids that if they get lost then this is where we will meet you. I think my kids will find it a bit disorientating not having the hat there as its all they know. Now to find something just a big and easily spotted to retrain them lol

Can they not use the hat at the entrance or something so it is still the icon.

I do remember the park prior to the hat as dh and I have been a couple of times before the children came along. But the children only know it with the hat, and we have had photos taken every visit outside the hat of them standing back to back, as it was the first park we went to on our their very first day! I have a great little display of them growing on the wall, and I'm sad last summer is the last .
