Artwork - Originals or prints?

So just as the title asks, if you were buying a piece of artwork, be it a painting/drawing etc would you rather pay more and have an original or buy a print that was less expensive?

Depends what it is really. I've got some nice prints of art I'd never be able to afford, some limited edition prints from contemporary artists that I like and are a bit more unique and one original that was a gift that I like. Original paintings are special and I'd love some more, but good original art is going to be outside most people's budget I would have thought.

I'm planning a trip to St Ives this summer and I'm hoping to find something special for my walls there.

I have both thanks to interest free credit payment plans.

I always prefer the originals if I can get them though but do get the prints if its an picture I really like and the original has already sold.

I'd go for prints. They don't look any different to the originals.

Originals look very different to prints!

Originals are the original piece with the actual oil, paint, pencil etc on them with the texture & feel that this gives. The artist worked on them & touched them.

Running your hand over an original let’s you feel the paint & the layers etc; prints have none of that & are a flat copy.

We have both.
We have two original pieces of art. Nothing like prints, they are both oils - one on canvas, which tbh just wouldn’t be the same as a print as it’s actually raised in parts (though there are prints of it to buy) and the other is on board.
We also have a couple of limited edition prints of some F1 artwork.
