I am so so sorry, I had to take my beautiful cat to the vet for the same thing a few years ago. He was 19 and was also struggling to walk, I came home from work and he had used his litter box and must have fallen over in it and had poo all down his side - I knew then that this was it, but it totally broke my heart. My vet had a lovely room, with a sofa and throw and it was done very nicely. I hope yours has something similar. You will be in my thoughts

Thank you. He is very stubborn and wants to get on the sofa with me but he cant lift himself. He has no stability and just lies down most of the day. Its heartbreaking to make the decision though, it's my responsibility but its horrific. I've had him once I was 8, and he has always been with me even at university. It will be strange not having him around x
