Building a pc - help!
DS has been building a pc for the last few months. He finished it today and all seems to be working but he cannot get it to play on his TV screen. Can anyone help with things to troubleshoot? I’ll pass the thread to him now, as I no idea what I’m talking about!

It could be the graphics card isn't seated in the motherboard. Does the computer beep on startup? Depends on how many beeps can be the first steps in diagnosing the problem.

Is the new PC 'speaking' to the TV? does TV show up in the PC's list of network locations (assuming you have a windows PC).
If you don't get it sorted before my hubby gets home this evening I'll ask him what he suggests - he's built quite a few from scratch so will help if he can. In the meantime - Well done to your son, I know how time consuming building a pc can be and how much head scratching goes on the first time lol. Edited at 01:40 PM. |

The graphics card is seated firmly into the pcie slot all power is going in and fans are spinning, the motherboard makes no beep upon starting up.

ah right when you said seems to be working thought it was up & runnning
as above when it boots up do you get a set of beeps / leds on the front i would open up & reseat every component again, ##disconnect from mains first## & use an ESD strap a loose dimm could prevent booting ? even as far as POST which is the 1st thing he should see on the monitor screen |

if there's no display output whatsoever, then it doesn't all seem to be working!
are there any error lights on the motherboard? is there any sign of life other than fans? fans spinning does not indicate anything other than the PSU is working. if youre not getting any display output, then it sounds like something is wrong. try disassembling/disabling parts bit by bit. remove everything that isnt necessary to boot it up is there an onboard video output on the motherboard that can be checked with to confirm it is actually working try re-seating the cpu and ram, as well as the video card. |
