I’m worried, and very sad
I have had a phonecall from my dad and sister to let me know that there’s a huge possibility the family dog is likely to be put down if she doesn’t pass overnight.
She is 13 year old border collie who has suffered epilepsy since a puppy. In October she started to have mini strokes, and a couple of weeks ago a bleed on the spine. The vets have been fantastic and have treated her but with each issue have warned us she may not recover. On each occasion she has shocked every one by coming through the treatment to the point where the vets have nicknamed her the comeback queen. She had a check up on Wednesday and the vet was happy with progress, but tonight she has gone off her legs completely. Options were given and my dad chose to bring her home, all her meds are stopped. If she doesn’t pass tonight she will be going to an appointment tomorrow. I’m devastated, due to isolation I can’t say goodbye to her, and they are limiting to just my dad in the surgery when this happens. I feel so helpless but also know we have to abide. Sorry for this post but have to get it out of my system, as you can imagine my dad is distraught. I’m grateful my sister (his carer) is with him, but feel so bad I can’t be there when he’ll need me most . |

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, to update, I’ve had a call this morning she has got through the night but has had one fit. This was expected as she has basically been taken off all drugs cold turkey where normally weaning would apply.
Because the vet has said a fit would likely kill her and she’s come through it. My dad has gone into denial. My sister tells me that he’s insistent she is coming home later as another ‘comeback’, but the poor dog is still off her legs, has stopped eating and is incontinent everywhere. My sister was sobbing her heart out on the phone saying he’s clutching at little signs instead of looking at the bigger problems. My sister is trying to make him see sense but he’s not listening. I really don’t know what to do |

An awful situation. No one wants to see your pets go but she has given the signs she is suffering and it will only get worse x
