Nervous about driving in Florida!

We have booked a car hire from MCO, hubby is very nervous about driving in Florida despite the fact that he drove a camper van in Germany last year. I am also anxious about it too now. What are drivers like in US? And what is the give way/traffic light system like compared to the UK? I drove him nuts in Germany because I was so confused by doing everything opposite to UK so hope I don't do this again!

Most people find it easier and more relaxing to drive in Florida.

There's a great section in the Dibb guide with loads of advice

Thanks for the reassurance. I have never driven on the right before, my other half has done a week in Germany in a camper van so fingers crossed!

I was nervous too.
The most difficult thing is stopping yourself from drifting as you’ll be so used to being in the left lane.

At red lights you can turn right I believe...you’ll see some drivers do, some done and some honk if you don’t!

Using freeways is a scare IMO as the lanes aren’t marked well at all, people under and overtake and it’s a constant THUD THUD THUD as it’s concrete slabs.

Use google maps as a sat nav as it provides guidance on which lane to be in. Download offline maps in advance if you’re don’t want to use data

Driving in Disney is a dream really as it’s simple... I did take a wrong turn one night though and was one lonely car going through the Epcot was entrance at 1am

As people have said, I found it easier to drive out there. Roads are massive and speed limits slower.

Be aware of cars overtaking on either side on three or more lane roads, sadly now more common in the UK but everyone does in in the US, make good use of your mirrors. It's sometimes difficult to judge your nearside so you may find yourself close to the kerb or a lane inside you. Having said all that he will have no problem. Get a Sat Nav or use your smart phone for navigation, takes away a lot of the stress.

I find it easy to drive in the US, easier than Germany (where I lived for 3 years).
I would not, however do it without a Satnav. To me, this makes all the difference as it tells you where to be.
