It’d be weird to put unknown down for a step dad though. Surely if you know that your mum has married someone then you’d know their name. You could either leave it blank or put the name down, but putting unknown is unusual.

I’d just put the name down, it’s a factual thing, they’re not asking you to talk to him or anything.

my husband now knows his biological mum and wants to find out about his birth father and find out if he is in prison but he cant as he was adopted so has no legal standing in that. So if you haven't been adopted then he is still legaly a next of kin if ever required.
