I’m guessing not everyone could find the extra cash from their spends. What is small change for some might break the back of another’s budget.
Tip is optional, isn't it?

I don’t know if this is routine but I was quite surprised that when I had a second glass of wine at Narcoosee’s, that was on the bill as free and the instead they charged for the cheaper drink my wife had. Just a few $ difference, but still a pleasant surprise.

The second glass was also very generously poured too!

Yes a good server will often do this with either alcohol or speciality soft drinks.

Last year at the yatchsman, our server brought me another glass of wine, without charge, as our DD , age 13,only had a coke, so that was nice of him.

So, you're spending many thousands of pounds to be on holiday, you ARE on holiday, you like a glass of wine but you weren't having one because you had to pay a little bit extra?

I don't get it...
People dont have unlimited cash and many will have stretched themselves just to get there. I get it completely.

This has been addressed many times. Legally yes optional. In all
other respects no. Tipping makes up part of the servers wages. If you don’t want to tip in US restaurants that’s fine, it adds up, but then choose another holiday destination. Or go and budget for it. If you want to go topless on the beach, fine. But do it in day València not Dubai. Basically respect the cultural norms of the country you are in. I won’t go on and this thread will now probably get closed anyway.
