There are Welsh tax codes and rates. They are currently aligned to the English rates.

A quick call to the tax office at 8 in the morning should clear everything up. Don't wait until 8 ring at around 7.50.

From experience your daughter either has an Underpayment coded (but it would be a big Underpayment)or more likely her records show 2 employment so her tax code has been split between the 2. Has she had a previous employment and if she did has she received a p45 x

Or set up an online account with the tax office. DD had a similar issue, she set up an account then did a live chat, 10mins later if was all sorted and her overpayment will be refunded in next months pay (hopefully as she hasn't had it yet)

I did tell her to ring them originally but whether she will or not remains to be seen,

By having different bands it infers the rates will be different. So I was still correct but you gave a little bit more info. But the basic tax free allowance is still the same regardless.

Obviously this was not the case and she overpaid tax. To get this back she doesn't need to call anybody, she needs to fill in form P50 which can be done online or through the post.

Thanks again for that - she’s just submitted the form on-line this morning 👍

had she handed in her last p45 or filled in a p46 when she started her job? she can call the tax office but might be best to go to her employer in the mean time and ask as the person who deals with the wages deals with taxcodes ( normaly all worked out but can be done manually)
