Considering the costs to install one have already been factored in on the bills even if you refuse one and you don't have to actually pay any more to fit one I cannot see why you would say no. Too much false information about how they spy on you. Why would any one be interested in what the average joe public does like that? Eventually all will be smart meters regardless of what people want. Meters don't last and do need replacing eventually.

We have a solar energy reader because that enables a switch to turn on the immersion when we are producing excess solar (boiler turned off mar to sept). It IS interesting (to me) to see the difference having the adult sons use! Usage more than doubled and they can't argue the data.

But the energy providers dont need to have that info so it's a no from me!

I'm on a fixed 1 year deal with British Gas that is dependant on me having a smart meter installed. Lucky for me I did the new deal in March, so with COVID I've not had to have one installed... yet.

Just had my first reminder email to get one installed last week. Intend to ignore it until they get shirty. As far as I'm concerned, I don't want anyone in my house unless absolutely necessary, until COVID is no longer an issue. Hopefully that means I'll have changed supplier again by then.

Don't be surprised then if you get a bill for the difference between the standard rate and what you agreed to with a smart meter. The supplier would be entitled to claim this as you will be in breach of contract.
