How about fresh whipped cream? Would that make the cake lighter? I suppose that would need eating that day?

Sorry I've only just seen this, I use 250g butter, 400g icing sugar, 100g cocoa & a splash of milk. You could add some melted chocolate in there too

This is a similar recipe bbcgoodfood/recipes/c...te-buttercream.

Another good tip I have when baking a cake is to wrap wet newspaper around the outside of the tin and tie with string, this keeps the outside from cooking quicker than the middle.

you can use whipped cream but it would need eating quicker and it can be harder to get it to stack if doing mutiple layers as with the cream being softer/less dense it doesn't always hold up the additional weight very well.

Personally I would go with vanilla or if you want a but more flavour add salted caramel or peanut butter filling to break up the chocolate

For me there is nothing better than fresh cream. My second choice would be the ganache. We donít like the Betty Crocker stuff in this household but it does seem quite popular with others.

I bought the betty crocker fudge stuff earlier 😬 in fact I bought two tubs because I going to try and do 3 or 4 layers of cake.
I hate to think how many calories this cake will contain 🤣🤣
