We bought a Nikon lens from Florida in October.
It cost $349 and here it is about £400. It was from Best buy.
Their stuff is always good quality. We have bought loads from them over the eyars.
There is one near the Florida Mall.
We priced up in Ritz but Best Buy won hands down.

Best Buy is cheap but they stock very few DSLR lenses - I think they had two Canon fit lenses in stock in Oct, neither of which I wanted!

We must have been dead jammy then as they had the exact one for the Nikon 80 that DH wanted.

The Ritz store in Florida Mall gets the newest stuff first and holds more backroom stock than its Sand Lake Road branch.. so ts worth checking both branches...

Thanks for all the reponses so far.

Ritz appears to be the popular choice. I've checked prices against Best Buy, and Ritz seems to win there too.

Here are some price UK/US comparasions for the lenses I'm after (in case anyone is interested). I've compared Ritz against Jessops, since I would consider that a like for like comparasion (both are 'over the counter' authorised Nikon dealers).

Nikon 10.5mm, f/2.8G lens
£530 at Jessops
$700 at Ritz (approx £180 cheaper)

Nikon 18-200mm, f/3.5-5.6G lens
£550 at Jessops
$750 at Ritz (approx £175 cheaper)

Whilst the £/$ rates may be different by the time I go, the savings are significant!

Adding B&H's prices on those two gives:

Nikon 10.5mm, f/2.8G lens
£530 at Jessops
$700 at Ritz (approx £180 cheaper)
$599 at B&H (approx £231 cheaper)

Nikon 18-200mm, f/3.5-5.6G lens
£550 at Jessops
$750 at Ritz (approx £175 cheaper)
$659 at B&H (approx £221 cheaper)

It's well worth checking them out if you don't mind mail-order (as I said, they are a very reputable dealer - unlike a lot of mail order camera places in the USA!). They also stock Sigma, Tamron, etc alternatives if you want to compare those too.

Thanks Andre, much appreciated.

If I were to include mail order from reputable retailers, then Amazon.com are the cheapest I've seen. B&H are good, but have shipping charges on top.

Nikon 10.5mm, f/2.8G lens
£530 at Jessops
$700 at Ritz (approx £180 cheaper)
$599 at B&H (approx £231 cheaper)
$579 at Amazon (approx £241 cheaper + free shipping)

Nikon 18-200mm, f/3.5-5.6G lens
£550 at Jessops
$750 at Ritz (approx £175 cheaper)
$659 at B&H (approx £221 cheaper)
$680 at Amazon (approx £216 cheaper + free shipping)

I'm undecided about going with mail order. I'm thinking about going with just the camera body, buy the 18-200mm from Ritz (so I can start using it ASAP) and mail order the 10.5mm from Amazon (that's almost half the UK price! ).

Can you order from Amazon.com though? Last time I tried it wouldnt let me order from the US site.

Id love to know if this has now changed - or do you mean ordering from them and delivering to a US address?

I mean ordering while I'm there and delivering to my Villa. I'd confirm that I can do this with the Villa owner before I place the order.

TheRock... just be carefull as UPS etc dont always expect a signature and just leave parcels on the doorstep. If your villa owner has a good managment company you will find they will accept deliveries of small size parcels to there office then you can pick it up from there when they call you to tell you its been deliverd to there office.
