Virgin Atlantic flight only refunds

Having changed our Virgin flight twice now (so not permitted any more free changes) and given up on this year, I reluctantly feel that i"d rather just have the money back now 😢

Has anyone managed to somehow get a refund in advance of a flight being cancelled rather than waiting? Or for any other reason?

The webpage says this:

"If your original ticket issue date was up to or including 11th March 2020 and your flight is still scheduled to operate, you may request a refund if you are unable to travel due to an Event Beyond Your Control. If you are unsure please reach out to us to discuss further."

Not sure what this means? I booked in Nov 2019. Can I request a refund?

We should have been going to NY this week with VA flight only. Decided back in November to see what our options were rather than wait for them to cancel last minute. Rang them and got a refund within 30 days. It probably helped that I wanted to book Orlando this August and sorted that out at same time. I would suggest ringing them to discuss, I was not on hold for long either.

Had the flight been cancelled? Just had a response from them today essentially just saying no 🙄

I can't see them being too keen to refund unless they have no other choice.

I'm expecting our late April flights to Orlando to be cancelled and I'll ask them for a refund when they are.

refunded our rewards seats within 7 days earlier in Jan and no fee charged either, but I think cash seats are different T&Cs

Yes redemptions have completely different rules to cash fares.

Wondering what to do about our end of March flights, they were booked far too hopefully in December 2020. Going to Orlando so thinking they may be cancelled at some point soon. I can change the flights but at the moment, flight prices are cheaper for the dates we want to rebook so we would lose money, as they don't give a refund of the difference if it's to a different destination/cabin class.

Would you wait for a cancellation - would they have to refund in that situation? Or rebook now or make it an open ticket? Everything keeps getting worse for travel, not better, and I'd rather have the money back now

If they cancel they will offer open ticket first but you can then ask for full refund instead.

What type of fare was it? Reward?

They told me via Whatsapp you can't get a refund for any reason (unless you booked a reward fare, or flex) unless the flight is cancelled. No exceptions 😢
