Art of Animation, Pop or Caribbean Beach Resort?
Right, so I'm teetering on the edge of making a booking for July 2021, with the view that we will have to cancel if masks are still required.
I just can't bear not to go next year IF things are almost normal. We would like to add on the DDP IF it comes back for July 2021, so the rack-rates are huge (2 adults, +2 children disney counts as adults 10 & 12). We have done SSRs (with a huge discount) and loved it. We were hoping to splurge on AKL with free DDP (pre-covid plan). My kids love the look of AoA, but I am leaning towards Pop because I worry that the Mermaid rooms might be miles away in AoA. But I'm also wondering about whether or not we should do CBR. We would be going for 2 weeks of pure Disney. Any thoughts, please let me know! Thanks, Ally |

We've done all 3 resorts, and this is just my opinion :-
1. AOA - incredibly immersively themed, a really lovely resort. The Ariel rooms are about 5 or 6 mins walk from the main building. The food court is great, lots of choices there for any ages and the pools are great fun. 2 Pop - lots of different theming, rooms can be a bit further from the food court depending on which era you end up in. Rooms are lovely, but not as deeply themed as AOA, which is a newer resort. Again, good pools, but some of the rooms front straight out onto the main pool which can give a bit of late night noise. 3. CBR - we stayed there last year, and really, really loved this one. Less Disney theming, but was massively refurbed in 2018 so everywhere is fresh and bright. On the plus side, the Skyliner has two stops there at either end of the resort, and this will take you to Epcot and the Studios, which we thought was so good last year, particularly the Studios line because we hate the car parking at the studios, it is a bit of a nightmare (we use the disabled car park and it is horrible to get to!). The resort is very big though so on the minus side, unless you have a car, it can be a bit of a hike to get around the resort. The main pool is amazing, and there are several quieter pools in the different groups of resort rooms. Again, the food court is really good too. Oh, and the Skyliner also stops at Pop, too. We did have a hire car, but left it at the resort on the days we did Epcot or the Studios last year because the Skyliner was so quick and easy. If you have any specific questions about any of these resorts, feel free to ask!

Silvercat that is SO helpful. It is a little bit crazy, but I am leaning towards CBR, basically because it is such a lot of money already, I feel like we may as well spend that extra for a resort with slightly better facilities. The only issue is that we won't have a car. If, in worst case, we are miles away from the main hub, do have any idea of distances? Also, do you happen to know what the best sections to ask for are? We got such great recommendations from the Dibbers for SSR we were in an amazing location!
Thanks! |

I’ve stayed at all of them too and agree with Silvercat’s summary.
When you say you are miles away from the main hub, which main hub do you mean? CBR is pretty central for all of WDW but if you’re looking at going offsite an Uber wouldn’t be huge (but obviously depends on where you are going!)

It’s just over a mile from the entrance of CBR to Disney Springs if that helps? From there you’re close to Crossroads/LBV.

I wasn't clear - sorry, I was thinking about the food court/central part of CBR.
Although it is really handy to know it is only a mile to Disney springs. |

Yes that can definitely be a walk that’s for sure! We’ve always been lucky and ended up at Martinique which was only five mins or so but having walked around the lake I think you could be ten mins or so away from Old Port Royale (if it’s still called that! )

Haven’t been to CBR but have stayed at the other 2, only for short spells though.
I don’t think the walk at AOA was bad. Only on arrival did it feel like a long walk when I was pulling my case. Out of AOA and Pop I prefer AOA, the theming is just lovely and it was great exploring the different sections and we found the food court there better. The refurbished rooms at Pop are nice though. I don’t know when we will be back on site but if the free dining never comes back I can’t see us going for a deluxe ever again, even the price tag of the moderate with no free dining seems excessive. We always said we would like to stay at AOA again and if free dining is out then it makes AOA more appealing.

Out of these 3 I’ve only stayed at AOA and would agree it’s very well themed.
We were only there for 3 nights staying in a mermaid room which are the furthest away from reception/food court and when you’ve had a long day at the parks it does feel like a long walk. We didn’t realise there was no coffee machine in the rooms so if we were to stay there again I’d take my travel kettle.

Out of these 3, I've stayed at AoA (a few years ago though, in a Little Mermaid room) and Pop (multiple times, most recently last November). Not stayed at CBR although I took the chance to wander around a bit last year.
In terms of where to stay, my preference is Pop > AoA. Pop was recently refurbished around 2017/2018, and the new rooms are really comfortable, whereas AoA hasn't been refurbished since it was built. Also, if you are wanting a single room (not a suite), it is easier to get a room at Pop that is nearer all the amenities and transport than at AoA where the Little Mermaid rooms are all off a bit further away. The pictures I've seen of the refurbished CBR rooms look really nice and I'd like to stay there some time! However the resort is really very spread out - last year I decided to get off at the Skyliner station and walk around CBR to take a look. The walk from the Skyliner station to the main building took absolutely ages. I know there's an internal bus loop so that helps, but wow, the resort is just so spaced out. So I have somewhat mixed feelings about it, but maybe I just like being able to easily walk anywhere. All 3 have the great perk of having the Skyliner which is seriously amazing!
