I do understand 'newbies' to the West Coast concerns about the planning. It does take a bit more than, say, Orlando/Disney/Universal, and a week at a beach. But the principals are the same - think what you'd like to do, ask advice from people who know (and there is a great deal of knowledge on here), read on other sites and try to plan in advance. It just gives you that much more confidence talking to people who have already done it, for sure.

In the end, though, the final decisions are - and always will be- yours. I can advise you where to stay in Vegas, for instance, but only if I know the age and interests of the travellers, when you can go, and how much you want to spend? As will others, who are just as, if not more, qualified than me.

I think the thing about the West Coast is that there are four or five major cities - and they all offer different things. You really have to categorise for your trip, from the info you can get. Just keep asking questions, and (most of the time) people will give you the answers!

So, the trip is now confirmed:

Flying Heathrow-LA (direct) and return with BA.

Mon 13-15 July (3 nights) - Humphries Half Moon Inn & Suites, San Diego
Thu 16-19 July (4 nights) - Palm Mountain Resort, Palm Springs
Mon 20-25 July (6 nights) - The Palazzo, Las Vegas
Sun 26-28 July (3 nights) - MGM Grand, Las Vegas
Wed 29 July (1 night) - Crown Plaza, Beverley Hills, LA.
Right, now I've changed a couple more:

Flying Heathrow-LA (direct) and return with BA.

Mon 13-15 July (3 nights) - Humphries Half Moon Inn & Suites, San Diego
Thu 16-19 July (4 nights) - Holiday Inn Express,Cathedral City, Palm Springs
Mon 20-25 July (6 nights) - MGM Grand Bungalow Suite, Las Vegas
Sun 26-28 July (3 nights) - MGM Grand Grand Tower, Las Vegas
Wed 29 July (1 night) - Crown Plaza, Beverley Hills, LA.

The HIE in Palm Springs comes with complimentary breakfasts for us all - the Bungalow Suite at the MGM includes those two 'all day buffet' passes, for all six days.

And that really is IT! No more alterations! Now we just have to wait 7 more weeks!

It sure is...we love it there though.
Staying at Marriott's Shadow Ridge, just outside Palm Springs in Palm Desert. Lovely resort - will be our 4th time here. We are addicted to the Califonian way of things!

never been to Palm Springs, so I'm really looking forward to that part.

We're in Cathedral City - you're in Palm Desert. Did you ever drive into Palm Springs itself, or is there plenty to do in Palm Desert? Would you think we'll be going to Palm Springs rather than staying in Cathedral City itself?

All help greatly appreciated!

Sounds fab! Would love to spend longer in San Diego next time, only drove down for the day last year to visit the zoo due to time constraints. Although I wasn't keen on Vegas itself I must admit the MGM Grand is stunning, I think i'd consider a repeat visit if I could stay there *lol* Enjoy your trip
