New York New York half-term Day 6 Museum of The Moving Image /Halloween houses

Wednesday day 6

This morning we take the subway yet again over to Astoria in Queens. The Museum of the Moving Image is definitely open today. It’s a lovely building and quite a new museum.
It tells the story of the American film industry and how it started in Astoria before moving to California to get better weather. But they’re back filming in the area, loads going on.

If you've any interest in the film and tv industry, this is a great museum to go to. Children will love it as it’s so interactive. There was also a section dedicated to video games from the past 40 years and the Jim Henson Exhibition - all his muppets were there!

There were props from horror films such as The Exorcist and Nightmare on Elm Street as well as latex masks from The Elephant Man. We had great fun and had a lunch in the cafe there.

Back on the subway to Lexington Ave as we were going Halloween house hunting. Last year David and I came across these houses on the Upper East Side, so we wanted to see if they were doing Halloween again this year …oh yes they were!

After our spooky fix, we walked into Central Park. We wanted to visit the visitors’ centre before it closed for the evening, to get a few souvenirs.
It was another beautiful evening, so we walked down to the rocks to take some photos, conscious that our NYC trip would soon be over.

We found a Cuban restaurant for dinner on 6th Avenue, burritos all round. Did a few more bits of souvenir shopping before going back to the hotel.
Distance walked 10.2km
