C&L South African Adventure Oct 2018 - Day 9 - The Cape, Boulders Beach and exploring

Day 9

We got up at 8am and M had made breakfast for us 🙂

We were going out on a day trip around the Cape with M today. We left about 9.30am, Chris drove our hire car. As their house was in Bloubergstrand we had to drive through the centre, we didn’t leave too early to avoid the traffic.

There was a shark watch place at the top of the hill, so we decided to join in .

We stopped in Simon’s Town first and had a wander around.

It was a lovely town and we could’ve spent longer wandering around. We got back in the car and carried on to boulder beach . We didn’t pay to go right down to the beach as we were planning to visit another place where there were lots of penguins later in the week. It was also very busy.

One pengiun looks like it doesn't have a head haha

After stopping for a quick drink we arrived at the cape. It was 147RN each to get in (around £8). We stopped for a sandwich before walking up the cape, these were about 70RN each (£3.80)

We then started the walk up the Cape.

When we were at the top of the Cape we saw one of the distance signs, we were discussing whether SA was further than Hong Kong and I remembered I had take a similar photo at HK. We couldn’t believe how close they were in distance from London (SA is on the left )!

We walked back down and then went to the Cape of Good Hope, seeing some ostriches and their babies along the way!

We drove back via Chapman Peak Drive which is a famous winding road along part of the Cape. The road was amazing and scary at times with the cliff edges! We stopped for photos along the way.

We stopped for a drink, there was suddenly this amazing mist come in over the water! We stopped for a photo and there was a huge seal too!

It was surprisingly far all around the Cape, much further than we expected and we didn't get back until about 7pm.

We were very hungry so Chris and I headed out to a restaurant nearby called Catch 22 that M&C had recommended. Chris had a bear and I had a red wine.

We ordered some cheese stuffed jalapenos first. I had steak with pepper sauce and Chris had pork ribs and queen prawns.

This came to about £34 including a tip. The food was amazing, as was the wine We then headed back to the hosue and went to bed.

It had been a very tiring but amazing first day!

Next - day 10

Really enjoyed reading through all of your trip report. I decided to comment on this one as Boulders Beach is my favourite place in the world. It doesn't look like you went to it but there is a small beach entrance where you go down yourself and you can just sit on the beach or swim amongst the penguins. Its beautiful.

The trip you have done is almost identical to our 2016 trip so it's been lovely to see all the photos.

Cape Town is my favourite city in the world and we just loved Krugar

What a fabulous day - spectacular scenery and a good dose of wildlife! Now I have read it I remembered that I had heard there were penguins there but it seems odd to have penguins and no snow!
