... I am actually sad enough to keep a log of our annual, walked mileage (usually between 1700 and 2000) and I think New York added about 45-50 miles.

I have so enjoyed reading - although I have been to NY before, I didn't know even half of what you described existed! I have found reading trip reports really can give you ideas and hints and tips, and until I found this site didn't know such things existed!
