A very late NYC trip report from June 2012

Old/New... or at least my attempt!

We went into the gift shop... Christmas in June!



We caught the boat back.

Back on the mainland we had a look at the many memorials for various historical events.

The original plan was to cycle over the Brooklyn Bridge but we were just feeling too tired so we decided against this and just had a mooch around instead. Another reason to come back we decided!

We decided to go to Wall Street so below are some photos I took along the way.

We went into Tiffany's to have another look around; somehow we ended on the engagement floor where we witnessed a couple supping champagne whilst choosing her ring... We also ended up on another floor which was just for food... we hastily made our exit! We found ourselves in Century 21 and we lasted all of 10 minutes! Talk about two extremes...

Feeling a bit weary we caught the subway back to our station which was 7Av/ 53rd Street. Not really fancying going out for dinner tonight we decided to pick up a slice and took them back to our room where we slobbed out and watched some dire tv!





We were utterly exhausted and got an early night, ready to make the most of our last day before our evening flight home.

Woah this trip sounds awesome! I'm also flying VA from Heathrow to JFK and preying we don't have that long of queue in immigration!

Lovely huuuuuuge room!

I didn't know about the cable car 'transportation' either until I noticed it on my map and as we are staying up in Midtown, we will be doing it!

Top of the Rock looks lovely at sunset, did you go up Empire State?

Can't believe how busy Times Square is at 12AM! :O. I'm going to look into a meal at that revolving restaurant in the Marriott!

Fingers crossed you won't. It wasn't fun!

We loved The London and it was really lovely to have such a big room and good to have the lounge to chill out in.

The cable car is definitely going on my must do for August!

We didn't, no. We had previously been up ESB when we went in 2007 but not TOTR. I preferred TOTR as you do see ESB and also Central Park, however, if you haven't done ESB before then it's must do!

I know, it's crazy how busy it was! It was a lovely experience, there is a bar on the floor above the restaurant too.

Today was our last day in New York and we were determined to tick as much off our list and enjoy our last day. I checked in on my phone and after much research about our seats home was pleased to know we had 6K and 7K in UC! (Thanks Virgin Flying Club!) I had secured a late check-out for 2pm... anything later than that and the hotel wanted big bucks (think $300+)

I had carried out some research last night and we decided on breakfast at Sarabeths on Central Park South. It was a beautiful day in the City and although it would have been lovely to sit outside we didn't really want to wait 30+ minutes for a table so we shown straight away to our table.

I had pancakes with strawberries which were delicious!



Toby had an omelette which he really enjoyed



I had a hot chocolate- I am quite partial to a hot chocolate whilst I am out and about at breakfast time.



Toby had a juice of some kind... something with cranberry



We really enjoyed Sarabeth's and hope to return in August. The prices were very, very reasonable and again, I would recommend it!

Bill paid we soon made our way towards 5th Avenue.

We headed off towards Grand Central Station and passed the Waldorf Astoria on the way





After a looooooong walk we were almost there

We couldn't find our way into Grand Central... but after a while we did and WOW was it worth the walk!

















We started to walk back uptown and back at the Rockefeller Centre so we have some daytime photos!

As we need to finish up packing we started to make our way back to our hotel. We checked out and headed into Central Park but not before making a stop and grabbing a burger to eat in the park. Really we could have picked something up from Whole Foods on Columbus; oh well we live and learn .

With heavy hearts we left Central Park and headed back towards Columbus Circle





A quick gift stop in Hersheys and some other shops in Times Square we were soon back at the hotel. I had arranged with Groundlink to be collected from The London at 6pm, I received a notification via their app advising the driver was outside. Car loaded up and we were on our way... traffic was horrendous and bumper to bumper. We were glad we had made the decision to get the car early.
