Charter Travel will allow a debit/credit card payment for your deposit only. The full balance must be paid to them by bank transfer, so no security for your money, whereas payment by CC you do have.

If you pay the deposit(over £100) by credit card then the whole amount is covered under Section 75 not just the amount you paid on the card.

Don't understand the rationale of CT only accepting bank transfer for the balance... it's out of step with the rest of the market.. don't like it.

It is but it is very hard to get the CC company to do this, by that I mean you need to keep pushing and cajouling them.

You will have no issue gettign back the £100 they can see the link between a purchase and a non-delivered service, the rest of the amount will take effort and proof...

Note: this whole part-payment practice is under investigation at the moment and it is thought the s75 cover will change to only things bought wholly on the card within the next 24 months; many credit card operators have already increased their APR charges because of the money they are losing on part-paid s75 claims

I understand their rationale they get to keep a few pounds more per booking, but its a skanky process, expecting someone else to take your responsibility for refunding your passengers but not actually allowing them to take the fee that forms the "insurance" for the amount

And this kind of business practice along with the 'white lies' which aren't really white lies are what would stop me booking with them again. They reel people in with cheaper prices then oh no, the hotel isn't available so you'll need to stay here and if you don't want to then you lose your deposit due to t&cs

I've used them 3 times in the past, all with great success. However, that was pre covid and would now be nervous about using such companies in the current climate. Reasons being payment security, their t&c's and the fact I have no idea how any small to medium travel company is still operating in the current pandemic. It's been horrible for them along with many others.

I enjoy putting together our trips and I think you have much more control. I think they also predict flight prices, of which they can change. Ie if you get it for 500 per flight, and then they're released and it's 800, you can either pay the uplift or get your deposit back. That of course was some time ago. I may be wrong.
