What chocolate for present

Hi all,

I want to take a box of chocolates as a present for an American family. I don’t eat chocolate myself but I’m aware that the quality of UK chocolate has declined. If you were taking some as a present what would you take, maybe something they can’t get over there?

I love Hotel Chocolat, for me the milk is strong enough, I find the dark too intense. I bought one of their Velvetisers for hot chocolate, it is so delicious there's no way I'd go back to Highlights and Options, they just taste like sugar and coming from me with a sweet tooth, that's really saying something.

Our American friends love Thornton’s chocolates (even though we don’t like them!). Hotel Chocolat would be an option. M&S do lovely truffles and boxes of chocolates, even cheaper if you’ve an outlet near you. Make sure you keep them as cool as possible, they melt quickly.

Godiva and Lindt always go down well even though you can buy them there.

I don’t know if you can get it in your local area but here in Norfolk we have a chocolatier called Booja-Booja who make the BEST chocolates! They have a really high cocoa content and are incredibly rich and moreish. Monty BoJangles is a really cute brand with brightly coloured Victorian inspired packaging that might appeal to American Anglophiles.

Not sure if there is one near you but Charbonnel et Walker. Pretty expensive but OMG just delicious and pure indulgence.

I have always loved Charbonnel et Walker having discovered them a mere 46 years ago as a teenager but they are an extremely rare treat for me, Hotel Chocolat are my second favourites... by a mile...
Do not take them that rubbish that is sold under the name of Milk Tray or Dairy Box (can’t remember which is the worst) but Cadbury’s are not the decent chocolate they once were... I mean I love chocolate but have thrown these away...
