In my opinion, you cannot beat the value of a studio at old key west - if you can get it! It’s a big room and it has a window at one end and a balcony at the other, so light coming in from both sides. Also a mini kitchenette area which is useful. And it’s a deluxe so full dining plan.
I’m currently checking daily for OKW availability with dining plan for next summer which is proving elusive but I haven’t given up hope 😄

what you could also have a look into, is Old Key West, for a Studio
they are the largest "standard" rooms on property, the decor is rather light and bright, and the property is very nice
you can get it with free DDP and usually with a 30% discount on top of free DDP (from past history) and it's considered a Deluxe resort.
Unfortunately, the 30% discount off OKW and SSR isn't available any more. Made them such an affordable place to satay for our 2013 and 2015 trips.

I've stayed at POR, CSR and CBR in corner rooms at all of them (it's always my number one request before requesting a level) we've found that most of the time, if not all of the time, the curtains or blinds were drawn, just as @sprocket said, for privacy purposes.

and even then, it didn't make the room much brighter. At all 3 moderates we stayed at, there was a covered walkway running in front of the room, and that took out most of the light

POR at the bayou was the worst for this (still that's the location we love the most among all moderates) because of the lush vegetation, and that zone is very dark

then at CBR we had a room facing north, so no direct sunlight all day ... real dark with the covered walkway around the building

To be honest we always requested corner rooms, because we read it was supposed to be more light inside. But from our experience, it made no real difference compared to a standard room
We found it made quite a difference.

But you’re right it’s pot luck getting one and if the room faces the wrong direction it won’t matter. Still worth considering if light is a key concern though.

On the subject of OKW I’ve always had very dark studios there so it shows it really depends on what you get!

I thought our room at CSR was very bright but my preference is port Orleans French quarter. I like the size of the resort and the rooms are pretty. We did have a corner room which helps.

I really like the look of the resort itself. The fact it only has one bus stop. My friends have stayed at both POR and FC. They didn’t like the food court as much at FC but preferred that it was quieter and buses not so busy. Need to wait until next year if DDP is available 2021 first but nice to look and plan a little. It’s hard to get prices for some rooms next year as already gone for next to compare for my dates. Will have to jump on it quick as it seems Disney do not release as many rooms as they used to. Did consider renting DVC points then adding on the dining plan but need to investigate what’s better cost wise. I’ve also seen that it’s becoming increasingly harder to rent DVC points for extended stays.

I don’t know the size of the new resort but other than that, all the moderate resort rooms are the same size. Same contents more of less. Some have a Murphy bed. Best to choose a moderate room based on theming, resort facilities or price really as the room is more or less the same. The outsides look different but that just a shell. Corner rooms are lighter and brighter but you can lose a decent sized wall mirror as a result. Higher floors will let more light in as no foliage in front of them. Or car park views for the same reason.
