We stayed at the holiday inn express fishermans wharf and it was ideal. I know it is often mentioned for the universal hotels on here but don't forget if you are booking through hotels.com there are lots of places you can use tesco clubcard vouchers for. We didn't use them for this hotel but did use them to book Tenaya Lodge for Yosemite (unfortunately we didn't get to stay there due to forest fires but it was a good saving).

Stayed at the Coventry Motor inn in 2015, was reasonable, free parking and really nice.

Good to hear. We are booked in for next Easter. Not brave enough to drive around SFO, though and getting the BART into and out of the city from the Airport.
We pick up the car to go south as we leave. APart from anything else, it saves on 4 days car hire.

We did have a car and it was great to drive out to the Marin Headlands and Sausalito. It was actually not a bad place to drive around. LA was much worse!

We saw Sausalito, Marin and Muir Woods on our ‘Dylans Tour’.
I would agree that the traffic in LA is hideous. With SFO, I simply don’t like the ‘all way’ junctions when combined with cycling tourists.
Our other issue last time was that our Hotel on Union Sq charged $75 Per night for parking.
