11.06.2019 - Let's go to San Francisco - part 2

Travelling this time was DH (54) - driver/eater/moaner/petrol head/biker

Me (51) - navigator/planner/booker/spreadsheet creator/feeder

After a stifling night sat in the doorway, we did actually manage a few hours of unbroken sleep . We didn't need to sit in the car with the air con on at 3am in the end!

Breakfast was free from reception, but you had to take it back to your room to eat, which was fine.

Coffee, fruit juice, fresh fruit and pastries

Today was supposed to be more walking to take in the Palace of Fine Arts and the Disney Museum, but it was already really hot and we were suffering from the walking yesterday and an uncomfortable night, so we decided to do some laundry!

Yes I know - laundry!

It was a 10 minute walk to the nearest laundrette and it was on the sunny side of the street!

Dear Lord it was like standing in a sauna in Death Valley

We trudged back to the room and opened the furnace door and threw the clothes in

Today was our tour of the city. I booked this back in March through Get Your Guide. A 3 hour tour for £116.14 for both of us. It was on a converted cable car and we were really excited about it.

There was a bit of changing about as they changed the date and later in May the departure location too, but it wasn't an issue.

Today was another first for us too - Lyft.

I had seen Chris using it and had got organised with the app before we left home, but I had never used anything like it before in the UK or the US, so I was a bit apprehensive.

No need to be - it was AMAZING

so easy to use and completely brilliant

The Lyft dropped us off and Union Square and we made our way to Macy's

for one specific reason.

Breakfast at the Cheesecake Factory on the top floor!

It was way too hot to sit outside so we waited for a table. They had only just opened and there was a 10 minute wait already.

Once seated we both had cheesecake for brunch.

Once finished we had to find our way to the departure point which was easily located by the heart.

and after a few minutes sat in the shade our ride arrived.

It was brilliant for this weather. Open sided so the breeze cooled you down, and they had frozen water bottles for us all too

First stop was City Hall where we were able to go inside and have a good look around.

Lovely and cool!

Back outside we boarded the cable car and carried on to the lower Haight District before our second stop at Alamo Square Park and the Painted Ladies.

then on towards Golden Gate Park, The Richmond district, and Sea Cliff.

Our last stop was the Golden Gate Bridge at Vista Point.

Which was amazing, but having a good 20 minutes to have a good look around, we were all back on the tram within 10, due to the searing heat.

All the American's were amazed at the heat in San Francisco. The locals had never experienced anything like it, and were cowering in the shadows like Doby the house elf!

On the way back to Union Square we drove though the Presidio, Pacific Heights, where Mrs. Doubtfire's house is, Columbus Street, through North Beach, Little Italy, and onto Chinatown. Finally back through Nob Hill to Union Square.

Apparently this house (yes 1 single dwelling) is owned by a UK couple

and this alley is where fortune cookies were invented?!

Back at union Square we just got Lyft back to our Motel, which was once again like a furnace

We were too exhausted to walk any further so we grabbed a takeaway burger from the end of the road and ate it sat in the open doorway of our room.

The tour was brilliant and well worth it if you have limited time in the city and want to see as much as possible. The guide and driver were great and we tipped them accordingly
