Mobile Mid August Car Hire

Flights now booked for 15/8 till 30/8 into Tampa, now need car hire. Looking for a standard SUV but prices are very high, the cheapest is Virgin £545. Andy and Alamo Brits are £900+. What did you pay for August 2019 and when did you book and with who?

Car hire isn't a one off job. I select a provider and pay up front normally at 11 months before we go. I then repeatedly go back to see if the price has dropped, if it has I amend the booking.

most car hire companies are pricing like flights now, releasing prices in line with flights which means the prices start high and fluctuate.

Best thing to do is to find a company that allows free cancellation & amendments, make the booking now and keep checking then cancel/amend as required.

I have done a spread sheet since prices were released, virgin hasn't changed but all others have come down a few pounds but nothing significant. I guess I will have to keep checking.

I've been checking these dates too recently. To be fair a lot of the prices have shot up overnight, both on BA and on Andy's site. My fault for not booking when I saw a good price last night but I'll keep checking, hopefully they'll drop again soon...

Try Costco Travel as they were the cheapest I could find for next August. Not sure on cancellation terms etc but worth adding them to any comparison. For reference, I booked a standard SUV with Andy at DFCH for this August which was roughly around £440 for 14 nights from Sanford. Think I booked that in April this year.

I was looking at the weekend for April next year. A convertible is over £1000 with Alamo and Andy, Virgin is around £800. I've booked with uscarhire for £718 (so worth a comparison) but hopefully the prices will come down soon.

Have you tried looking at the prices a day or two later as that is about the date Alamo come off peak season pricing. Although this is a little bit of a flaff I seem to remember last year quite a few people were doing two bookings, one for the first couple of days then one for the rest once the peak prices came off and just changed over at the disney car care centre. Takes a little time but did save quite a lot of money
