Dilemma - AK or POR
Hi, next year we are booked into POR for 10 nights. We have stayed here before and really like it for the foodcourt and boat to Disney springs. However, I have always wanted to stay at AK and this is probably going to be our last time for a few years. I am reluctant though because the food court doesn’t look as good (or a bit alternative) and it’s distance from disneysprings. What would you do? Is it worth staying at AK if not in a savannah view room? What is the food court like and travel to Disney springs? Help!

Food court at AKL was delicious - a bit less choice than larger food courts but everything I ate was really good. I probably had 5 or 6 meals there over a 2 week stay and it didnt feel repetitive so maybe it depends how often you eat at the hotel. Im staying at POR in Feb and to be honest I find the quick service menu there less appealing.
I really wouldnt worry about the distance to Disney Springs it was maybe a 20 minute bus journey. My only criticism was some long waits late a night for a bus back from Disney Springs, but to be honest Ive found that every time ive stayed in a Disney hotel. |

Thanks for your response. I suppose I am worried that the kids won’t like as much of the food.. do they have the normal stuff as well... like bacon sausages waffles, burgers chicken etc? Also, has anyone ever upgraded from POR to AK and if so, how much extra was it? We’ve already got upgraded dining plan.

How often do you plan on going to Disney Springs? Unless it’s every day I wouldn’t worry about it too much. An Uber is about $10 and wouldn’t take long if you’d had enough of waiting for a bus.

We do like Disney springs but maybe that was because of the convenience before with the hotels we’ve stayed at? Just not sure on the restaurants at AK will be to kids tastes and then have to face a trek to Disney springs for more choice?

My OH is a really picky eater and absolutely loved the food at The Mara and at Boma - it’s not all alternative food at all and has its fair share of ‘normal stuff’ - I have to admit I love Boma at breakfast it’s one of the best ones on property in my opinion

We visited AKL on our last trip (we were staying at WL) and we much preferred WL. The decoration and theme of WL was more our cup of tea. But one thing that would really put me off staying at AKL are the transport options. It's the only deluxe on site that only has bus transportation, all the other deluxes have bus and one other (be it boat or monorail) and some are within walking distance as well. I was really shocked that you couldn't walk from AKL to AK.
Oh and we did try the food court at AKL and it seemed fine and the bog standard Disney resort food court. The restuarant itself seemed quite dark inside but again that's just personal preference. |
