I usually just do a week. My sleep pattern is all over the place usually so dont have an issue over there.

This year I landed at 9am but had to get the train home so didn't get home to about 5pm. Did doze on both the plane and train but not for long.
Came back to a large water bill so had to sort that out instead of having a kip so went to bed about 10pm in the end and slept until 7am as had to be up for work. Felt tired butbok.

I felt worse on Monday after a long weekend playing petanque in hayling island, and I'm still recovering now

We had just a week and didn’t find jet lag a problem night flight back from Orlando into Manchester arriving at 7am. We were in our car less than an hour later and then “enjoyed” a lovely 4 hour drive back down to Suffolk with a quick breakfast on the way got home at 1pm after collecting pets from my parents house. We kept going by unpacking, sorting the laundry and getting school stuff ready for the next day. We had dinner watched tv then Dd aged 12 went to bed at 8pm we followed at about 9pm. All up the next morning at 7am ready for the school run with no jet lag. Staying awake no napping having an earlyish night but getting up at the right time works for us!

I would second melatonin. We do transatlantic every year at least once. 2 x melatonin half an hour before your normal bed time. Works a charm.

Melatonin. I suffered terribly, now have none. I take my first as I take my seat on the plane, then have it an hour before bed around 5 nights after.

I used to suffer terribly but then tried the following:

As soon as you board the plane, set your clocks to Orlando local time. Limit alcohol consumption.
Upon arrival, try to stay up at late as possible. I'd say at least 10pm if possible.
When coming back, again, as soon as you board the plane, set your clocks to UK time.
Whatever you do, DO NOT go to bed when you get home. Do whatever you need to do to stay awake and go to bed as late as possible.

I slept right through and felt great the next day. I have to admit though, it's not easy staying awake!

Does anyone ever get side effects from the melatonin? I always think about it but then chicken out... i get awful jet lag esp the way back home. Going out its just as you say, a v long day and try and go to bed as late as possible.
