Which buffet? Do we book? Vegetarian options?
Hi there
Obviously I know that the buffet at 'Inventions' is very good and must be booked, but I was wondering about the buffet dinners at the other hotels (SL, NBC, and NY). What sort of things do they offer? Which is the best one and is it necessary to book these? It is a few years since we have been to DLP (usually go to FL) and I am shocked at the hike in food prices since we last visited. I remember the buffet in Billy Bob's being good then. Is that still so? We will have a vegetarian in our party. Are there plenty of choices for her at the buffets? Thank you for your help xx |

Cafe Agrabah is particularly good for veggies.

I'm veggie, and ate very well in the standard level buffets last year. I don't know about the plus level hotel restaurants, but as Gill says, Agrabah had lots of veggie options, and so did La Cantina at Santa Fe. The other standard restaurants had plenty of veggie choices too, just not quite as much as those two.
I'm not sure how necessary booking is for the hotel restaurants. We went in August, so it was very busy. We mostly ate in the parks and there were long queues for Agrabah and Plaza Gardens, so we were glad we had booked our tables. At Restaurant des Stars in the Studios, it was nearly empty and people could just walk in, but I think we'd booked a fairly early meal there (12 noon) so that might have been why. And when we ate in La Cantina, we changed our booking on the day and had no trouble re-booking for an evening meal just a couple of hours in advance. If you know roughly when and where you want to eat, I'd say that you may as well book - it doesn't cost anything, and it's no problem to cancel your booking if you change your mind. You could always just pop down to see your hotel concierge, check that your alternative is available, then they'll change your booking for you, so you're not completely tied to any bookings you make now. |

When I was walking past the buffet to get to my Yacht Club booking at NBC, the line was pretty crazy. And that was on a weekday where I didn't think the park was all that busy. So if you can book, I would. But I don't think I'd waste an international call on it either, just check with the hotel concierge when you arrive.
Can't help past that though, as I don't eat at buffets. |

You shouldn't need to pay international call prices to book. I've got a number off here that says it's free to call for dining reservations, and I'm going to try using that. Even when I used the normal number to book last year, it cost less than 10p in total, so not too costly in the world of all things Disney

My DD is a vegetarian and she particularly enjoyed Agrabah and Cape Cod at Newport Bay on our girls' week away last year.
Most of the table service restaurants only have one vegetarian option per menu, although you can substitute dishes from other menus at the same place. DD did that at Blue Lagoon and thought the food there was delicious (plus we had a table right by the water and drank Glowtinis so it was a lovely evening). Don't bother even trying to eat at Ratatouille unless your vegetarian actually likes the stuff - there's no way to avoid it!

Just got back last week and people were being turned away from buffet restaurants at the hotel New York and Newport bay as they didn't have a reservation, this was midweek outside of school holidays so I would book in advance.
My husband is veggie and there was the most choice at the yacht club and plaza gardens was also very good. All three we went too had loads of salad items on the buffet
