Seat for an 18 month old?

If the £500 is going to put you under pressure don't do it and put it out your head. My little boy is 19 months (youngest of 6) and in April when we travelled he was easier than he had been last July or indeed the flight before that. At 18 months there is plenty to take in and absorb and space to move about. By the time you get games, toys, books etc out, food, nap, nappy or clothes change and a few wanders the flight will fly in!

I wouldn't have had either of my kids on my knee for that amount of time at 18 months. Sounds thoroughly miserable to me. I don't like the bubble either so that part would be a none issue anyway.

If I can get the £500 sorted I may do it, noticed 2 rows of the seats of 2 at the back are free so thought they may be decent as we would still have the window then even if we would be last off.

We are going next may with our three boys who will be 11, 9 and 17 months. We are not booking a seat for the wee one. I am under no illusions that it may be easier with one but we just prefer not to spend the extra hundreds when we dont have to. Aer lingus have a good sear config for us, 2-4-2 , the window seats suit us two and two and our older boys will for sure take a turn 😀

Even if you don't book her a seat, I'd consider changing to a seat with moveable arm rests as you can sometimes squeeze a little one with their sibling that way (as long as seat belt signs aren't on). It's also easier if the six year old wants to lean on a parent to sleep on the way home (in my experience anyway).

Anyone any tips on what economy seats may be good for a family of 4 (2 adults, 6 year old and 18 month old on lap)

I looked at extra leg room but would have to pay £40 a seat and then apply for a refund for the £75 I've already paid to prebook the seats in the bubble

The bulkheads aren't showing as available but they may not show till check in

We sat in premium economy front of the bubble last year with our 19 month old. She disnt have a seat and arm rests dont go up. BUT she did spend a fair time sat on the box below the window.

As way of an update (which nobody asked for)

I think we are going to book the extra leg room seats around row 39

A few quid extra but a little bit more space, we can lift the arm rests and she can have a bit of a wander.

It looks like I need to book them and then request a refund for the initial payment for seat reservations I just hope that refund comes through!

We never paid for seats for our kids until we had to and it was fine.. Longest flight we did was Vegas with a 18month old on our knee and it was fine..
