Mobile BA Luggage Question - how many bags?

Hi

We are travelling out in economy with BA but returning World Traveller plus. Do we get 2 x 23kg for both legs of our journey or just for the return journey ?

The BA website mentions that you get 2 x 23kg on both legs of the journey?

Many thanks

I doubt you'd get the enhanced limit for both legs, tbh. Virgin certainly won't give you it for both ways.

We flew both directions WT+ last year, but quite honestly with only the two of us we only needed one case each and our cabin case anyway. I suppose it depends how much shopping you intend doing.

If I were you, I'd take some sort of flat-pack case in the bottom of one of your suitcases (or even a slightly smaller suitcase which fits inside your larger one), so that when you come home you've got the extra suitcase and don't have to buy another one while you're out there.

Thanks, I can't seem to find where I read about the extra luggage allowance on the BA site. I'm sure it was 2 cases each way?

If you log in to Manage My Booking and check against each leg of your journey it will tell you there. We are WT out and WT+ back and our domestic flight to Gatwick says 1 x 23kg but all our other flights say 2 x 32kg. We might have an extra bag on the way home but we will only have 1 each on way out so not an issue.

The extra luggage allowance is for BOTH flights.

Taken from the BA website:

Allowances on mixed cabin journeys

If your journey includes flights in more than one travel class, the more generous allowance will apply to your whole journey

Dazed is correct, BA apply your allowance to the entire booking rather than each flight.

See here: britishairways/en-gb...age-allowances

Although whenever I travel somewhere that I know I'll bring more home, I do the case within a case method mentioned above. So I've never had to test the theory when upgrading inbound.

Thanks all for your help, that's good to know!

Also what are the average price of upgrades to wtp from economy a few days before you fly? On manage your booking it is just saying to call?

How much on average is it likely to be ?

Many thanks

It depends. There are 3 types of cash upgrade with BA:
  1. Standard cash upgrades (accessed through "upgrade my class of travel with money" in MMB, or by calling BA. This will simply be the difference between the fare you paid and the current fare for the upgraded cabin at the time of the upgrade. Close to the flight, this could be very expensive, depending on route and availability.
  2. "Limited time special offer upgrades". These are the ones that appear in your booking, usually on the rolling banner at the top. These are usually, but not always, the best value, but are only offered when the airline feels the need. There are also numerous BA IT issues that stop them from being offered (e.g. indirect/connecting flights, booking not direct with BA etc). These would usually be in the range of £150-275 per person one-way from WT>WTP. The only way to find them is to keep logging into your booking, and they may only be available for a limited time when they do appear.
  3. Airport upgrades. You can always ask at check-in if they are offering any paid upgrades on the flight (be sure to be clear you're willing to pay so they don't think you're trying to blag an upgrade). These can be good value, if available.

Your challenge would likely be that WTP is a very popular cabin, especially on leisure routes, so the good value upgrades are less likely to be offered, though sometimes they will offer when heavily overbooked.

It depends what plane you'll be on. We were on a 777 both ways - which is a smaller plane - and there were literally 3 rows of seats in WT+ 2-4-2. So, that's only 24 seats. On our flight in August the plane was completely full - including every seat in Club Class.
