On the flight do you have to sit in the seat on your ticket or can you swap with a family member?
Hi,
On the flight, do you have to sit in the seat on your ticket for take off and landing? I've just realised I've booked my 3yr old in the seat across the aisle instead of me or DH! What a silly mistake! I daren't swap them as the cabin is almost full. |

I can't ever remember cabin crew checking I was in the seat on my boarding pass at any point on any flight I've taken.

I honestly think you will be fine. I swap with members of my group all the time so I can be next to a window.
As long as you don't try and sneak into first class I really don't think they care! |

My granddaughter swaps seats all the time depending on which family member is in favour at the time

Cabin crew won't check (unless someone else claims you are in their seat) but - not to be too morbid about it - if the plane crashes (and this is more likely during take off/landing) then the quickest way of identifying people is based on the assumption they are sitting in the correct seat.

I never even look at which name is assigned to which seat.

Thanks everyone.
My daughter can't sit in that seat so I'll have to try and swap it then. I suffer from bad anxiety and hate flying so I'm freaking out now over the crash comment as it had already crossed my mind.

Went on a flight to Krakow a few weeks back and there were a few empty seats. It came over the t annoy that people could move to a different seat, but they had to be in their own booked seat for take off and landing. They said it was due to the weight setup and distribution of the aircraft.

That is so that everyone doesn't move to the front etc. It still wouldn't have mattered if people had swapped within a group.
