A few years back me and my partner sat in the whong seats by accident. The couple who seat it was said I think you in the whong seats we checked and ops so sorry about to move and the very nice young lady said oh don't worry stay there we only 2 seats from the ones which we booked . The cabin crew never said a thing .

We always joke about doing a 'window seat' gamble, where on allocation if you have a window seat, its yours! :P We pre-book now so we know we're happy where we are. We've always switched seats, never an issue as long as you don't fuss around and disturb others.

Awesome everyone thank you! Me and DH have swapped mid flight between window ornon window seat but Im pretty sure during take off and landing we are in our allocated seats. Good to know my daughter can sit in whichever seat as I'd like to make sure she's ok as well and be able to put my arms round her.

Nobody cares about your allocated seat. Last year when we flew to England the PE cabin was nearly empty. We were told we could sit wherever we wanted. Nearly everybody took a row each so they could lie down and sleep, except a sour faced woman and her 2 grown children who sat in their assigned seats the whole trip. The son wasn't even allowed to move to the empty seat in their row of 4.

Lots of empty rows on our outbound flight a couple of weeks ago and most people moved around, even before take off, no one said anything.

The worst that can happen is that whichever adult sits in the child's seat will be given the child's meal! Easily sorted.

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

I'm not too sure that a seasoned air crash investigator would use seat assignments as a means of identification in the event of a crash.
The seat assignments data would be purely used for anecdotal analysis for survivability from certain seat positions.
For the op, sit wherever you want within your group, the cabin crew will not question this at all.

We've always sat where we wanted within our group and its been fine.

On our recent flight to LA the plane was about 1/3 full and we were told we could move and sit where we liked before take off.

The only thing I could see not being allowed is a child wouldn't be allowed in the exit row seats.

Thanks again all. We are back row in PE - bubble out & downstairs return. We've got a two, then an aisle and then a one. My daughter is booked in on the one across the aisle but I'll just move her to window seat in the two.
