Miami for a day?

Hi everyone, me and my OH are thinking of having a day in Miami while we are staying on international drive in December, has anyone ever drove there for the day, is it worth it?
We don't mind the long drive if there's plenty there to see/do

No, it's about a 4hr drive each way and when I went for a few days I was completely underwhelmed!

It depends what you like .we stayed on ocean Drive south beach .
Had a great time walking the city , eating at some fantastic restaurants & visiting the sights.
A days not enough & you have to research where you want to stay .
The city has an excellent transport system plus the free city mover monorail .

I wouldn't do it.

I do a 4.5 hr road trip every year and the last thing I'd want to do is get there spend a few hours sight seeing and then have to drive back again.

If I were to do it I would want at least 1 if not 2 nights there to make it worthwhile.

It's not really a day trip - even if you head down the Turnpike and keep up with the 90-100mph brigade it's still going to take a good 3-4hrs depending on traffic so you wouldn't have long there! The beach areas are nice, rest of the city sketchy at best.

Thank you everyone for all the replies, i think we will find plenty to do in Orlando and surrounding areas this year as we only have 2 weeks and it doesn't sound worth it, gives me a good excuse to go back to Florida next year and spend a few days in Miami!

We really like Miami but have never even considered it to be a day trip from Orlando.

We're doing it as a day trip, no concerns about the driving - one of us will drive down early morning. The plan is to get some breakfast and chill out on the beach in the morning then do a Segway tour in the afternoon and then find somewhere to eat in coconut grove in the early evening then the other one of us will drive home
It's a long way for a day but we regularly drive that distance in a day.

My friend who works for Disney and lives in Orlando sometimes pops down there for lunch and then returns home afterwards, but as she is a local Floridian she isn't bothered about sightseeing or anything, it's just a day out. Plus she is used to driving long distances from one end of the country to the other, so it's not classed as a major distance for her.
It can be done, and you will get a flavour of the city, but not much else.
