Taxes are decided by the government or state. Resort fees are not in any way government mandated
They're a private charge made by the hotel for "services" such as wifi. It's just a way of charging more than the advertised rate. Far from being government directed, whether they're even legal is a matter of some debate en.wikipedia/wiki/Resort_fee It's already illegal in the EU. I won't stay where they charge you extra for resort fees. Some of these hotels are not resorts at all and only have one small pool and a car park. Aren't they just standard things anyway? What will they charge you extra for next... a toilet in the bathroom or bed sheets for the bed ?
