I feel guilty about hedgehogs

Many years ago we used to regularly have hedgehogs wander around our garden and patio, so I put some chciken wire up at the bottom of the hedges to stop them coming in. I used to put them back in the hedges to avoid any issues with our dogs at the time if they did manage to get in.

I was always gentle with the hedgehogs as I'm an animal lover, but I used to tell the hedgehogs that they weren't welcome in my garden (who knows maybe they knew what I was saying).

Well now it's been many years since I've had a hedgehog visit our garden, and I frankly feel guilty that I prevented them from accessing our garden and I spoke badly to them by letting them know they were wanted. It's even worse because of the decline in hedgehogs in this country.

If I could welcome the hedgehogs back I would, although I doubt it would be the same hedgehogs, but more likely their grandhedgehogs.

I hope dibbers won't judge me.

Hedgehogs have loads of fleas, you don’t want your little doggie babies
itching.
Even worse, we have seen your hairy arms so you could get them yourself

Our Dog Mr. Douglas who is the most wonderful gentle dog, is scared of his own shadow. The other year, we were staying in Norfolk, when he was coming in from having a wee, suddenly he flew and he is so badly disabled, he never moved so fast, all because he saw a Hedgehog on the steps to the cottage door, awww bless the poor thing was terrified not the hedgehog.

I feel guilty about not feeding foxes anymore, but one killed my cat and just took the head. I felt that was the time to stop. x

When I was in p1 my Papa ( who lived with us) brought a hedgehog home. He said that his bunnet ( Scottish for a flat cap!) fell off coming home from the pub and when he lifted it up there was a wee hedgehog in it. I tool it to school in a shoebox for us all to see and can remember seeing wee red beasties jumping off of it.
Incidentally I found out later on when I was lot older that it actually just appeared in the back garden but my Papa was great at making up stories for us.

I won't judge you... but when you pass from this life to the next let's just hope for you're sake that the almighty being presiding over this world and the next isn't a giant unforgiving hedgehog.

We were talking about hedgehogs the other day about how we never see any anymore - then driving one day I saw one on road , we jumped out to help it cross as it would have been squashed only to find I was too late 😢 then a day later I saw another squashed on side of road . We used to get them in our garden but dog tried to play with them and dog always came off worse .

Save the hedgehogs, they are becoming extinct! We had one in the garden and my dog barked at it and we haven’t had one since. When we stayed in Cape Coral in the local Walmart some kids had a hedgehog as a pet. They had it on its back with its little feet sticking out, it was so cute! Maybe put some milk out and you will get them again.
