Virgin and Delta seat charges

I am looking to book flights to New York for my wife and daughters for next year. Am I right in thinking that Delta don't charge for seat reservations when you book your flights? If this is correct then if I book a flight through VA but it's a Delta flight can I still select my seats for free? Or does it work the other way round (book through Delta but it's a VA flight)? Thanks

We are flying with Delta from Amsterdam and we have all booked our seats with no charge. Sorry, but can't help with the other part of your question.

If it's a VA plane you pay to choose seats, if it's a Delta plane it's free to choose your seats, regardless of who you booked with. Or at least that's how my flight has worked out, booked with Delta for a VA/Delta codeshare, the plane is a VA, and I've had to pay to choose my seats. Connecting flight is a Delta plane and seats were free.

Yep! Virgin plane- pay for seats, Delta plane- dont pay. Ignore who you book with that doesn't matter.
