Alamo Pay on Arrival

Hi I have booked a car today through Alamo Brit however I have selected the pay on arrival option as it works out over £40 less expensive, has anyone ever done this before I spoke to the guy in Alamo and he says its a guaranteed rate so am I right in thinking the only change may be if the exchange rate changes? Thanks

I've booked mine too this way and my understanding is that you pay the $ amount that you have quoted. That will then convert to £ at the prevailing rate at the time of the transaction.
I'm sure someone who has done this will be along to clarify soon

Hi, We've used 'Pay on arrival' three times, the amount in £ won't change before you pick the car up,when you collect the car the £ are changed into $ but not charged to your card till you return the car, then your card provider changes the $ back to £... so if the exchange rate changes during your holiday you may lose or gain slightly. Over three rentals I think we're about £12 up !

Thanks for that I'm sure the exchange rate wont change by too much only a few cents either way so won't be too bad plus a bit longer to save which is great

Yes that's why we've used pay on arrival before, also if you see a better deal elsewhere in the meantime there's no hassle having to get a refund etc.
