So many people get nervous going through customs/security at airports, which is similar to loking at items in shops when you are aware the staff are watching you (even though you don't plan to steal anything).

A few years ago I went through the nothing to declare customs exit at Gatwick and about half a dozen customs officers were standing in a line staring at me, so I smiled at all of them and wished them a good morning (none responded). In retrospect I was fortunate they didn't search my luggage (not that I had anything to hide - more inconvenient), because often the dodgy people can be good at acting confident/relaxed (they probably thought I looked like a nutter though).

Some people (guilty or not) tend to over compensate by either showing no eye contact or too much eye contact to officials, and some others try to just chat away to the person they are with to make it look like they are acting normally/relaxed but that can be a red flag to customs/security staff.

We’ve had a few incidents, ds had the same name as somebody who they needed to speak to! Me and dh had Pat downs, ds made to take of his converse boots. My dd sets off everything with her braces, belt, earings, had to put he name out on the tannoy at Gatwick last year because she went shopping and we couldn’t find her. She thought that was hilarious, ds got in to trouble for taking his phone out before he was supposed to at Orlando! Oh well all fun and games lol!

Funny enough me and the wife have been in Florida the last 3 Decembers in a row and we even put the car radio in Florida on a Christmas only channel that had a selection of about 12 christmas songs, and every other song seemed to be 'it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.'
